My Story

As a child my favorite “pretend play” activity was school. I remember imagining my room was a classroom while my stuffed animals were the pupils. I, of course, lead the classroom as I doodled on the white board and assigned homework like I was passing out candy on Halloween. I waited for the day school would become boring, however, it didn’t come. As I progressed through different jobs throughout my twenties, one constant remained… regardless of my position within the company, I always became a notable employee trusted to train new hires. After becoming a mom, I wanted a schedule that was more family friendly, and I returned to my childhood dream of becoming a teacher! Interacting with young minds and growing their English skills is fun for me. Reading, writing, collaborating, and creating are necessary skills for a successful entrance into college and the workforce. I chose to focus on English because it’s a subject that is hugely beneficial through out one’s entire life. I look forward to enhancing the minds and skillset of my future students.

My personality type is moderate, meaning, I enjoy using styles in equal measure. I very slightly lean towards Extraversion, Sensation, Thinking, and Judgement, however, not enough to have a limited view. I enjoy interacting with people, taking a practical approach, being objective was an onlooker, and making decisions which provide stability while keeping an open mind. These personality traits prove to be enriching qualities for a teacher because I can be tough yet nurturing at the same time. It’s important for my students to be accountable for their actions, yet I’ll mentor them in a compassionate manner that allows growth intellectually and social-emotionally.

My Philosophy

I believe in Progressivism, a form of education that is adapted to the student. This student-centered approach involves active participation, questioning, and experimentation. I believe this approach allows for greater self-discovery and helps develop critical thinking skills. If students actively participate in shaping their curriculum and learning environment, innovative ideas can be generated. Students teach teachers as well. Students and teachers can gain a deeper understanding by collaborating. Essentialism, having a common core of practical knowledge, skills, and moral standards to become valuable members of society, will also be demonstrated through my teachings. Identifying weaknesses in the fundamental elements of reading, writing, and math will help students succeed as the years progress. I also believe in individual choice and freedom, community involvement, and developing cultural literacy. My classroom welcomes students who desire assurance and assistance.
