Study Sync
Study Sync is a social learning product which promotes education through a social media-like platform. They create curriculum for schools in ELA, ELL, social studies, and science. It’s a technology-based program which provides adaptable, interactive, and equitable learning solutions.
Actively Learn
Actively Learn provides a class interactive experience through the reading of articles or short stories. Once the articles is read online students answer comprehension questions online and the results are immediately compared with one another to promote engagement. There are articles for ELA, Science, and Social Studies.
Common Lit
Common Lit is a reading program for promoting literacy in the classroom. There are lessons provided for reading passages in all genres for grades 3-12. Teachers can pick a reading, share it online with students, and track student performance on reading comprehension and writing skills. Spanish reading passages are also available.
Newsela
Newsela is a collection of articles that can be sorted by grade level, lexile level, topic, interest, etc. Each article can contain the same information, but based on the lexile level, the structure and vocabulary’s level of difficulty will vary. There are quizzes and activities for comprehension which the teachers can view online.
Think Cerca
Think Cerca teaches critical thinking through argumentative writing. It’s a personalized literacy platform for ELA, science, social studies, and math. It offers a scaffolded approach for teaching writing across subjects. Their process for writing framework is Claims, Evidencce, Reasoning, Counterargument, Audience.
Writable
Writable helps schools organize their writing programs around research-based instruction and feedback. Writable’s goal is to help students become more purposeful, proficient writers through assessment, guided practice, and feedback.
Edutopia
Edutopia is a foundation dedicated to help students grow and apply knowledge to their adult lives. It was created by George Lucas and the website houses readings, strategies, videos, etc. Edutopia shows people how they can adopt or adapt best practices for learning in the real world.
Common Sense Education
Common Sense is a nonprofit organization providing educators, kids, and parents resources for professional development, educational technology, and digital citizenship. Their focus is the use of technology within the classroom. Their website has a section on their webpage dedicated to resources in Spanish.
Student and Parent Resources
Grammarly
Grammarly is a program that can be added to a browser which highlights and crosses out grammatical errors. The program offers suggestions along with explanations for corrections. This add-on is an especially helpful tool for ELLs who have need supplemental help with the English rules.
Purdue Online Writing Lab
Purdue Writing Lab is a resource for students who need reminders and tip for formatting their writings. Everything from structure, formatting, citing, and research techniques are offered here. This website offers lot of clearly labeled examples for modeling and practicing.
College Vine
College Vine is an online database to help families navigate the best college path for them. There is information about improving SAT scores, applying to college and guidance throughout high school. The website offers help with building an academic profile. Milestone tracking, SAT tutoring, and providing leadership skills.
Parent Toolkit
This website offers news, videos, advice, and more for parents with students. It’s produced by NBC News to provide information about children’s development and how to navigate high school. Not only are academic topics referenced, but also social emotional health, financial literacy, and college and career readiness as well.
